Senator Debbie Stabenow Responds to Letter

I recently, well a month or two ago, wrote one of Michigan's US Senator's, Debbie Stabenow(D) about Judge Alito's nomination for Supreme Court Justice, and here is what she wrote back:
Thank you . . . . for contacting me to express your opposition to the confirmation of Judge Samuel Alito as Associate Justice of the Supreme Court. I share your concerns about Justice Alito, and I voted against confirming him. Judge Alito's record is clear. His writings and his court opinions from over 15 years on the Third Circuit Court of Appeals show a clear and consistent record of siding with the government and big corporations at the expense of average Americans. In case after case -- a family losing their dairy farm, women making reproductive health decisions, workers losing their pensions, a mentally-disabled young man who was the victim of vicious sexual harassment in the workplace, an unarmed 15-year-old boy shot dead in the back of the head by police, the strip search of a 10-year-old girl -- Judge Alito spent 15 years tipping the scales of justice against the little guy. Judge Alito takes the bench at a time when we face new constitutional controversies over the government's intrusion into people's private lives, from secret wiretaps that the government conducted without a warrant, to attempts to subpoena millions of internet searches at random from companies like Google. In light of where we are today and the issues that this Court will face, it is even more important to have a Justice who will stand up for Americans. Because of his extreme record and after much deliberation, I have concluded that Judge Alito is the wrong choice to replace Sandra Day O'Connor on the United States Supreme Court, where he could be making decisions impacting the rights of our children and grandchildren for the next 30 years. In an effort to let the public hear additional concerns about Judge Alito's record, I supported further debate on this nomination. Unfortunately, this effort was unsuccessful. Judge Alito was confirmed by the Senate by a vote of 58-42 on January 31, 2006. Thank you again for contacting me. Please continue to keep me informed of issues that are important to you and your family. Sincerely, Debbie Stabenow United States Senator DS:jn
Thank you for your continuing support for America's rapidly vanishing middle class. Senator Stabenow, always responds whenever I write her, and so does Carl Levin(D). Candice Miller(R) on the other hand hasn't once responded in any way. I guess she's too high and mighty to be bothered with an average citizen.
