Solar Thermal Energy Storage System
The Jmaximus Institute of Freedom is releasing today the Open Source Solar Heating System. The system is a breakthrough in it's use of thermal energy storage in asphalt paved surfaces.
It is well known among climatologists that these roads, driveways, and parking lots absorb so much heat they cause what is known as “the heat island effect”. Any person who ever walked barefoot on a blacktop parking lot or driveway in the summer knows how hot it can get. Everybody knows the cliché about “frying an egg on the sidewalk”.
Asphalt is almost a perfect solar heat battery, it heats up easy because it rich in carbon black, and because it has a high level of thermal mass to store the heat for long periods. Until now, nobody has ever thought of using this massive cheap energy resource.
The system would function in this basic fashion:
1.Underneath the Blacktop, a pipe [steel, copper, or plastic] would run [option: threw a small diameter concrete protective pipe] crisscross from end to end.
2.Cold water [from well water] would be pumped in the pipe at one end.
3.Hot water [heated from going through the pipe] would be pumped out the other end.
4.The Hot water would be pumped to heat-exchanger.
5.The heat-exchanger could then either use this for heating or generating electricity.
6.A compact version of an Ammonia-based refrigerant generator could generate electricity using the lower [than traditional power plants] temperatures of blacktop heat battery.
The major power plants that run our cities, rely on using ammonia instead of water to power there turbines. Ammonia boils at a lower temperature than water, thus less heat is needed to turn it too steam. Currently, these types of power plant generators would fill a factory building. Just like the ancient IBM computers of the past were huge and now are downsized to pocket size, so can these power plant generators. The hot water needs to run through a heat exchanger where it boils the ammonia. The ammonia then powers a closed-cell, steam turbine generator. Once this water left the generator, the now cold water, would be pumped back into the ground, starting the cycle over.
